PIGEON FORGE (AP) - A recent study found that 15 out of 16 hotel and motels in Pigeon Forge did not offer the rates they advertised on their signs. In some cases the actual rates were $40 to $60 higher.


The local government's solution? Ban the advertisements.
This week, commissioners approved the first reading of an
ordinance to regulate the ads and a final decision could come in a few weeks.


Knoxville station WATE-TV investigated the problem by hidden camera on Friday, finding more than one motel displaying one rate outside but telling people at the desk the rate was higher.


Tourist Randy Jones told the station -- "I don't think it's right for hotels to lure people in with low rates and then not give them a room for that price."

technically they have to give you the price they are offering outside "in print" on their ads. All the person would have to do, is take pictures, date/time, and you could easily put a lawsuit against the hotel.
That's like if you find something in the Trading Post, and even if it is a typo or anything, they have to sell you that product at the printed price.

I wouldn't use the Trading Post as an example. You would not have to sell for the printed price when its a 3rd party involved with the error.

They could just put a little asterisk on the signs, then charge customers tons of extra hidden charges and surcharges once they get there anyway. I always make my reservations ahead of time via the internet to make sure Im getting the deal that I want.

Exactly mega. Myself and some buddies from HS and our significant others are going down next weekend. I've had a chalet rented since July for it, and didn't worry about what they were "advertising".

Exactly, never go and try to read signs and get a good deal on lodging. All they have to do is rent one or 2 rooms for that price and they have satisfied the add depending on the wording of the sign or add wether it says room for $___ or rooms starting at $____.
